Japanese Style German Potatoes

A Japanese pub snack that was discovered generations ago. Few simple ingredients combined together creating a flavorful dish. It's actually comparable to the bacon cheese fries but without the cheese.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 medium russet potatoes fingerling size cut
  • 2-3 bacon slices
  • 1/4 cup onion sliced
  • 1 tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp. butter
  • salt & pepper for added flavor
  • oil for deep frying
  • 1 tbsp. sweet rice seasoning mirin

Instructions
 

  • sliced potatoes close to inches. Rinse in cold water and pat dry.
  • prepare fryer. Add oil and turn the stove on in medium heat.
  • Add potatoes as soon as little bubbles develop. The way to check is sticking a bbq stick in the bottom of the fryer.
  • Turn fryer to high heat. While potatoes are frying, Cook onions in the saucepan on medium heat. Cook for a few minutes.
  • Add bacon and cook it until it turns light brown. Remove the rendered bacon fat from the pan.
  • Use a wire strainer, take potatoes out of the fryer and transfer it to the saucepan.
  • Add the rest of the ingredients: soy sauce, butter, and a dash of salt and pepper.
  • As an option, add some mirin to balance out the saltiness and sweetness.
  • Serve immediately.
